A Royal Christmas Fairy Tale by Karen Schaler - Book Review

Hi bookworms! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! To kick things off, I was still in the Christmas mood, so I decided to read The Christmas Fairy Tale by Karen Schaler. Want to feel like you're reading the perfect Hallmark Christmas movie? Well look no further! This book was the perfect cozy winter read! I really was transported to the castle in Tolvania and it actually felt like I was reading The Christmas Prince Netflix original movie. That's probably due to the fact that Karen Schaler is the writer of that movie, as well as other Hallmark Christmas movies.

Here is the synopsis:

A charming Christmas village, a storybook castle, a royal ball, and a gorgeous prince are the last things New York City reporter Kaylie Karlyle expects to find on her holiday freelance assignment to Europe. But when the family she's interviewing turns out to be the royal family of Tolvania, Kaylie has a meltdown when the quirky queen wants her to write a Christmas fairy tale for the spunky, young princess. Kaylie must battle the princess's father, who doesn't trust the media, and her own insecurities about writing anything beyond the news.

To spark inspiration for the fairy tale, the queen recruits the prickly Prince Alexander to show Kaylie the family's most spectacular royal holiday traditions. And sparks definitely fly when the only thing Kaylie and the prince agree on is that they're both more "bah humbug" than "ho, ho, ho."

But somewhere between sleigh rides and snow angels, merrymaking and mistletoe, upside-down Christmas trees, and a legendary Christmas crown, Kaylie and the prince open their hearts to Christmas and start believing in themselves and each other. It's a real-life fairy tale in the making until Kaylie discovers a secret about a royal Christmas heirloom that jeopardizes everyone's happily ever after. Can the magic of the season save this holiday happy ending?

I couldn't get enough of this story! It was perfectly written and had all the elements of a great Christmas story: magic, love, and of course conflict. After all, it wouldn't be a great story without some conflict sprinkled in! All of the characters were such perfect players in the game of Christmas royalty. I absolutely loved all of the characters and the development of Prince Alexander's character. I also really appreciated Schaler's style of writing; it was such a breath of fresh air to read something so fun, light-hearted, and uplifting.

The ending was absolutely perfect and touching, and just so heart-warming. It honestly had me tearing up and reaching for the tissues! Such a perfect, uplifting story about the true magic of Christmas: love and family.

I highly recommend this book if you are looking for the perfect Christmas read (or just winter read) and if you love royalty, that's a bonus!

FINAL RATING: 5/5 stars

Until next time bookworms,

xoxo
